Default Need to help my friend on her wedding cake

A friend of mine is getting married next month and she still hasn't booked a cake. She is out of town though so she can't meet with the cake person and I'm going to "represent her". So please tell me what questions I need to ask.

She wants a round tiered cake. Maybe 3 to 4 tiers, to serve 300 people. What sizes would look good? she has a design in mind already.

anything I need to ask the decorator, please let me know. thanks! Am so excited for her. she's getting married to her high school sweetheart. it took them 10 years to finally get together.

wow! what a big cake. i use a serving size chart that was developed by earlene moore in oklahoma. the slices are a little bigger than the wilton serving size chart. she has a very informative website including her serving chart.

yeah i called the decorator this afternoon. the sizes she gave me are kinda too... wide so the cake would look... well... stout.

i need to figure out what sizes would work first.

she wants a round cake, maybe 4 or 6 inches tall, 3 tiers.

the decorator said 18, 14 and 10 but won't that look stout? my friend wants it to be tall. i posted this on CC too.

If she uses 3 inch pans each tier will be 6 inches with 2 layers at least so that'll make it more tall, or 2 layer 2 inches with a good layer of filling in each also helps with height.
Or change it squares and that might help with the stout thing also.

she has her heart set on this cake (picture attached) but the decorator said 5 tiers would be dangerous as it may tip over. which i found really weird

sounds like you need a new decorator, she sounds unsure of her abilities to pull off a 5 tier cake like that? baloney!

Why would it tip over? I think the decorator just doesn't want to do it. I'm with 2sdae, she should find a new decorator!
