Poly foil question...
I've been looking at some cake pix (thanks google image search!!) How do you get poly foil to be SOOOO perfectly tight on your board?
I've only used it once, and it was a disaster. I hated it so much, I threw almost the whole roll of it away! I must have missed some key step or something, because it looks beautiful on other people's cake boards. Can someone please clue me in??
Thanks!!

Re: Poly foil question...
Amanda,
I've never used poly foil, the few cakes I've made I've used fondant to cover the boards. Will have to try poly foil.

Re: Poly foil question...
I have not used poly foil either - in one of my Wilton books they showedthe underside of the board in which there were slits in the poly foil approximatly every 2 inches and each segment was taped down - looked PAINFUL! I too will either cover my board with fondant or use food safe spray paint on the outer edges of the cake board to color the board.

Re: Poly foil question...
for my circles I cut a large square bigger than my board. Then I lay it on my board and cut slivers in it almost all the way down to the size of board. Then I fold those edges around sometimes snipping it more if I need to and keeping it taught as I am folding. I also use double sided tape to tape these edges securely around the under side of board till I have gotten all the way around it, hope that makes sense...if not this weekend I'll have my hubby take frame by frame photos of me doing it and post them....now where are those rechargeable batteries for my camera......

Re: Poly foil question...
Hooray! I'm not the only one!!! I thought I must be a complete moron, because I couldn't make it work.
Currently I use white contact paper on my boards, but if not poly foil, what do y'all use? And how do you cover round boards if you don't do the slits? (I do the slits and I HATE it!)
Thanks guys!

And 2...please post pix when you can. I'd love to see them!

Re: Poly foil question...
I use a variety of things, including contact paper. I don't worry about wrapping around the edges of the boards most of the time. I just cut a piece to fit whatever the shape is and lay it on the top.
For most cakes, I use foam core so it's very thin, just never use those thicker boards I see in pictures, so you can't see the edges anyway. What I really like is the vinyl you get on rolls at Wal Mart. They have lots of cute patterns, but the one I use the most is the lacy pattern one.
I just don't want to spend the time cutting slits, wrapping and taping. It's too tedious and time consuming!

How do you get the vinyl to stay on the board?

Re: Poly foil question...
I have seen it hot glued or royal iced even, a lot of times I cheat and slather my base with royal in a matching color scheme and wrap a ribbon around edges. .gif)
