Thumbs up Have you ever?

Have you ever just said no to a wedding cake because of a bridzilla or crazy mother or mother in law?
Boy I am glad I did!!!!!!
I turned down a cake order about 2 weeks ago and just by chance someone I know now is making it and she is almost in tears over the bridzilla and her and her moth in law arguing and all want to pay something different for everything and just a bunch of B.S. And these people are monkeying around with a cake worth 1,200.00 a lot of change to have to keep adjusting and switching around...the ingredients alone could bankrupt ya if it fell through!

Yikes! Just wondering, what were the signs that told you not to take on these as client?

Good thing you didn't that's for sure. When you are in business you always need to realize that the cake you bake is your word of mouth (literatly too!). If you agree to make a cake that is not to your standards by giving in to a clients plead to use let's say inferior ingredients, that can cost you a lot of potential clients. Now imagine a cliet that is constantly changing their minds and at the end they are unhappy, what a waste of time and energy, and possibly many many clients... and there go the $1,200 and a piece of your mind!!

They couldn't come up with a flavor that the mother, bride and moth-in-law agreed with that all thought was proper and appropriate for a wedding. UMMM, an appropriate flavor? never heard of such a thing.

Then it was....what are the in colors, designs, heights of layers, fillings, kind of icings, everything had to be considered quite elaborate and very "in" or they just couldn't settle on it....too bad they couldn't agree with what was "in" or wasn't!

After that consult for 2 1/2 hours with no decisions I simply let them know I didn't think I could devot as much time and attention to this cake and there for felt it in "their" best interest to find an appropriate baker more suitable to their needs.
And I wished them a wonderful cake, day and life!

Thanks folks, but no thanks....see ya bye-bye!!!!

That's just crazy. I have always felt that the groom annd bride should be the only decision makers.

I thought I was having it hard having to deal with a Bride that has been changing her mind about the design of her cake. I'm putting a deadline on it though.
As far as what flavors are in, you should have told them even fruit cake still makes it to weddings these days!
I feel bad for youe friend though, hopefully she took a deposit to pay for anything she may have already purchased for the cake.

I tried to tell her! She got a 40 0/0 deposit and just cashed the check when they cancelled. So she deducted $ for what she had bought but I think she'll still end up in a hole over the 5 8 inch cakes different flavors and fillings and icings on all!:s mug:

I would have kept the whole 40percent. You know, the small print, "deposit non-refundable"
