I always put my cakes in the pan on a wire rack till they are cool enough to handle then I turn out onto the wire rack. I also use parchment paper in my pans and they never stick to the pans, and they dont stick to racks because I leave on the parchment till they are cool enough to wrap in press in seal and pop into fridge.
The best racks I have found have the lines going both vertical and horizontal, these keep them from getting the lines all across the cakes as they do cool.
