I forgot to tell you one thing that I've discovered. When I've carved cakes, dense cakes work the best. Light and fluffy ones seem to crumble more.
Hope you have a good day!!

I'm fairly new at this cake decorating thing, too! I just chilled and carved it. I finally found a use for the wood carving lessons I had when I was younger, and cake is A LOT easier. I covered the whole thing with butter cream and fondant. I've found that when working on something that is a little more "free form" like Mater and the severed head a little extra buttercream underneath gives me a little play with shaping the fondant w/ my hands/tools, plus I'll make the fondant on the thicker side too. The mirrors, tires, and the stuff in the back (towing apparatus?) is all gum paste.

Since I'm new here, I though that I would take the time to tell everyone about myself. I'm 23 years old and I am new to the Cake decorating world. and I love it. There are so many things that you can do with cakes now.
The first cake that I made was for Christmas and then I have just made cakes for holidays and birthday. I'm hoping to get better and make a small buisness with it. But for now there is so much to learn. I will be putting pictures of my cake on this website to get comments from...
