Thank you for your kind words!! I learned how to carve wood when I was younger...I finally found a way to use it and carving cake is A LOT easier! Good luck w/ your pirate cake! Make sure you post pics when you're done!

One of these days I'm going to try the Rice Krispies. Do you have to "crumb coat" them? How thick do you roll the fondant?

I started taking a Wilton Course to make a prettier cake. I was awful and the only thing I managed was the rose - go figure!. My classmates were hysterical & when I said the I wasn't taking the next class because I was awful at it, the one said "No! We have a great group here, we have to stay together". I took the 2nd & was getting carpal tunnel. End of the class, I wasn't going to continue because I wasn't going to be doing tiered cakes. Again the one said "no!...." & "it's only $10!" I said "if I do, I'm not bringing icing!" I did & the instructor laughs because fondant solved my icing problems. I'm still friends with most of them & 2 became instructors.

I became addicted & baked for anyone who would take a cake. My office is now sick of cake so I make one for their family events, like wedding rehearsal dinners, showers or big birthdays.

I wish I could say I'm a recovering cake decorator but I'm still addicted.

I make them for friends & family for fun. I just made one today for a tea drinking friend's birthday. She was laughing that I was a week early. I always think her birthday is this holiday weekend. Well, at least she can look at it for a few days but she better eat it before her birthday. I'll post a photo in my pics.

How did you get started in this life of crumbs?

Hi Mike! Great cakes! I took a peek at your pics to get an idea of your style. I want to find a cake name for you!! How did you do those teeth on the skull? They're great! I've been wanting to try to make something with Rice Krispy treats but haven't gotten around to it. Make sure you take all the Wilton courses if you haven't already. You learn different things in each class... and pay attention to only those that interest you.

Hi Mike, Thank you for the tip, with me being a newby and all, while i was uploading pictures, I didnt know I could tell about each cake. Pure signs of a newby lol...I actually tried to do a Freddy Crougar hand and well it didnt go well at all : ( so I went with the cake I have posted in my album ( the spiders etc.) needless to say, that was my 1st cake working with fondant. I had a vision but it went from a vision to a blurr lol..All the kids thought it was a "cool cake" so as long as they were happy, I was happy too...Thank you again for your tips and I hope I can help you in the near future.
