Default NYC ideas? (Hotel and food)

My husband and I are planning a trip to NYC this summer for our 5-year anniversary, and we've been researching hotels. We were planning to stay at The New Yorker, but found out they are being sued for bedbugs and that it's a bit farther out for walking everywhere and is being renovated also, sooo we started our research over again. And that's led us to The Muse. It looks awesome online, and has gotten great reviews on places like tripadvisor, but I thought I'd see if anyone has had personal experience with it!

Any suggestions on places to eat would be awesome too! We like anything, and dont mind splurging a bit for meals so long as it's not TOO insane (Too insane would be above $150 for a meal. That's just nuts for us!!)

Carrie

Well, as far as food goes, we decided to TRY and get reservations at Babbo... I say try bc you have to make reservations at least a month ahead of time to even get in!!!! So that'll be our "dress up" place. And afterwards, we will go for a cocktail at "The View" restaurant/lounge on the top of the Marriott Marquis Times Square--it's the city's only revolving restautant, and you get a complete view over the city. Now if we can just figure out where else we want to eat haha. We are pretty sold on The Muse boutique hotel, so we will be staying there as I still cant find any bad reviews about it, and its normally a $500 a night hotel and we are getting it for $260 a night... We are working on making a list of things we'd like to do.

The best pizza you'll ever eat is at Lombardi's. We had a fantastic Italian meal (one of our top10 meals of all time) at a place called Il Giglio. It is pricey. We went for a late lunch before the theater and spent about $300. BUT, that being said, we were on an expense account and had a really expensive bottle of wine with the meal. If you can't get Babbo, I'd definitely recommend Il Giglio. Nobu is supposed to also be fantastic. I don't recall anything about where we stayed or anything else, but I always remember Lombardi's and Il Giglio. Let us know where you end up!

Thanks so much!!! When we find out for sure which days we will be going, I will try and make reservations to both places so that in case we cant get one, maybe we'll get the other! And thanks for the pizza suggestion--we were hoping to find brilliant NY style pizza while we were there! My husbands mom is watching the kids, and she's thinking about whether she wants to keep them one night or two...we are really hoping for two since we will be spending 4 hours both ways in the car to even get there!

I really want to go to the museum of modern art, to see the Van Gogh paintings. I'd also like to go to the Top of the Rock Observation Deck, but Im terribly afraid of heights (well, maybe not heights so much as falling from them haha)... But i think it's something I'll have to get over to take in the view! We hope that Ellis Island is open--my husbands grandfather actually came through there when he was young from Italy, so it'd be awesome to find his name on the wall there. I'd like to go see Wicked, but that will really depend on whether we can get cheap tickets or not. ...Jacques Torres looks amazing; mmm chocolate!

Anything else anyone might suggest??
