Gas prices - UGH!!
I just filled up my gas guzzler and I am hurting! Even with my 10 cent/gallon discount at Safeway, I still paid $3.59/gallon, and for the first time hit the $75 mark at the pump. I think they have some kind of governor on the pump too because once it got up to $74.50, the pump starting slowing way down, even though I was paying by credit card.
My driving is mostly in town (only 7 miles one way to work, but through several stop signs and traffic lights), so I get @15 miles to the gallon with my Explorer.
I gotta start looking for a smaller car to commute to work in. I want to keep the 'big rig' for weekend/longer distance travel. If it didn't rain so often here, I'd consider a scooter or even a motorcycle, but I can't quite give up the comfort/security of being surrounded by metal, even if it's like being a sardine in a can. I think the new Smart cars are just too cute, and they don't seem to be too terribly expensive.
Anyone else thinking of changing up their vehicles?

Re: Gas prices - UGH!!
well we have a cargo van my hubby uses for his painting/construction business. It takes 89.00 to fill it! And he fills it 2 sometimes 3 times a week.
So if he has to go to do estimates or small stuff to check on job sites he uses my car which takes around 45 to fill.
So I end up walking with 2 and 3 year olds if I have to go some where very near, we usually plan trips or errands on days he doesn't have the car though. >>>crazy damn oil hounds........

Re: Gas prices - UGH!!
i think gas prices are squeezing the independent business owner the most. my husband works for a large company so he doesn't feel any effects. he just drives to work and drives home. however, he people who have their own local business are really feeling the pinch!

oh yeah, the little man gets th hits first...they are even raising public transporation prices again here which in 1 year has gone from 1.00 to 1.25 now getting ready to hit 1.50. That's one ride one way. Doesn't sound like much but just think, you do that twice a day every day and it adds up. Not to mention if you use it for more than to and from work.

Re: Gas prices - UGH!!
I feel your pain! I filled up my 42 gallon Suburban for $125 yesterday, at $3.36 a gallon. The gas station attendant's eyes bugged out when I handed her the cash and said, "$120 on pump 8, please." That usually fills it up, but since the price went up even more over the last week, I had to stick another 5 bucks in it to top it off. That will last me 5 or 6 days. *Sob*
Every gas station I go to stops at $75, so I have to do it twice. Annoying!
Have y'all tried GasBuddy.com - Find Low Gas Prices in the USA and Canada? That site is usually really accurate!

Re: Gas prices - UGH!!
It is so aggravating how high the prices are going and very quarter you hear that the oil companies make a record profit. I do not expect anything to happen soon, even though what is happening is wrong. Here, we live in a more rural area and there is no public transportation. My husband has to drive about 17 min one way to take DD to school and then go to work. Same trip back in the afternoon. I try to limit my errands to only once or twice a week if possible. If I need only a few things at the grocery, I get DH to stop on the way home. There will not be a vacation this year. We cannot afford the gas to go on a trip. Budget is really tight right now.

Ya, I just put $65.00 in my truck, and it barely went to 3/4 of a tank. It's so not fair for anyone right now. We need change badly!!!
