Help! Ugly cake!!!
Help!! I just finished a cake that I *thought* would look good, but I really, really hate it! I don't have time to redo it, but I can hardly stand to look at it!!
How do you handle someone picking up a cake that you think is terrible? Do you pretend that you think it's great, or tell them right off the bat that you think it's not good enough?
I need your advice!!
Thanks!

I wouldn't say anything until you see their reaction to the cake. They may not see anything wrong with it. If it looks like they aren't happy , then you can say something, but otherwise, I'd just stay quiet.

Re: Help! Ugly cake!!!
Never admit the cake is ugly!
9 times out of 10 it's just us being to hard on ourselves and the customer had no idea we think it's bad unless we tell them. I can't tell you the number of times I've sent out a cake I thought was awful, but the customer loved it.
C'mon...show us a picture. I bet it's not nearly as bad as you think it is!

Mum's the word on it...you can always give them a discount but don't tell them YOU think it's terrible. What we think is bad other people usually RAVE about..

Alright.....*sigh*...here it is. I can't pipe words to save my soul, so I had to use stamps for a template. The result is really thick letters....and the swirl-ies are really uneven and shaky looking. Same with the swags...ughhhh. Oh, and I haven't made BC roses in like, a year! What was I thinking????? Maybe she won't notice.

Re: Help! Ugly cake!!!
Amanda,
Your cake great to me. You've not seen ugly until you've seen my cakes. I am sure the person will be very happy with the cake. I know that I would if I was the that purchased it. I had my ladies group at church tonight and Diana was thrilled with the Medicare Card cake I made. But it was an edible image cake. My cakes taste great, just can't decorate worth a darn. I need to sign up for some classes or return to sewing where I am comfortable. I have to get up at 5:00 am, as my mother is having an angiogram done tomorrow morning. She is 78 so I am a bit worried about the procedure. I know that it's in God's hands. Will let him do the worrying for me. Take care. Night.

Your cake is very nice, not ugly at all! I think they are going to love it.
About the letters, a bit thick, but not bad. To make them a bit "dainty", You may want to go on top of those with a number 3 tip with white icing; it should be easy, since now they are already marked...
But even as it is, I think you did a very good job. Give yourshelf some credit.

Re: Help! Ugly cake!!!
I think your cake is great the way it is! And honostly, i don't think the customer will look twice at it, or think anything bad about it! The colors are pretty! I think you are just being too hard on yourself! .gif) But at least now you know, that whatever you thought was not so great on that cake, to do it differently on the next one! That's how you learn!
