Default Fondant molds

Hi,

My name is Maite, and I'm new in this forums. I have been working with rolled fondant lately, but every thing I know is by experimenting with it. Round cakes are not a problem, but still feel uneasy about square cake shapes. Any one can give me some good gide lines to follow?

There are some excellent videos out there on how to cover square cakes. I actually find them easier to do than round. With a square you only have 4 rounded spots to work on..a round cake is nothing but curved edges!

Here's the one I like the best...

Thanks for your help, is a very good video. The cakes I work with are very tall... I wonder if that will be more difficult to cover.

I'm having lots of fun with all the information contained in this site.

I don't think taller is really any more difficult.

But, the method is the same no matter how tall. The key is to do the corners first, then the sides.

I guess you are right... I'll have to give it a try

Now talking about molds...

Many year ago, I bought my fist silicone molds to make a cake with sea shells. They are really good, and I have been trying to find others with the same quality of details. I don't seam to be very successful. Who is the best manufacturer for fondant decorating molds?

Thanks, Amanda!

The site I posted is the one I made for the store I work at. I'm just one of the cake decorators there, but many designs are mine... So I'm very happy that you like it. Did you noticed the "Cameo cake"? The cameo is made out with a mold too.

Many thanks.

What beautiful cakes!

It's great that they let you use your own imagination and designs where you work. So many places insist on cookie cutter cakes!
