just found out my kids need braces!

OUCH! that will hurt our budget! 2 of my 3 children need braces, and soon.... My daugther needs them quick, because they need to put her lower more in front because it's too pushed back, before they put the braces for her teeth, and they need to do that within 2 years after her periods started, and started last summer so we need to start off soon. If they wait too long they'll have to operate on her to cut the lower jaw.... rather do it now than too late. And she's missing 2 teeth, they don't know why, so after all that she'll needs 2 false teeth. My youngest son, misses one tooth, and they don't know why either, so all his upper teeth are not aligned right. His two front teeth are really more to the left and not straight....

So.... it will cost us, all-in-all, around 14,000$ So instead of working only one year to pay off the car, I'll have to work a few more years to pay the braces. But at least my kids will have great teeth, and will be able to chew their foods better. And we never thought about getting dental insurance. Now it's too late, all the insurance companies we have around here, have dental plans that you need to have for 2 years before they cover braces....
But I know that it will be fine. it always go the right way. Something will come up and everything will be good! I have a few new customers and on Monday I'm starting my new job, and hopefully will be able to do a few more hours to get a little more money.

That's all I had to stay. I'm just writing this to feel better. Just to talk. so there, it's done and I feel so much better!!!!!!!!

yeah that's alot of money but like you said everything with Iron out in the wash. And you Children will have a beautiful smile in the end.

Wow that is a lot to deal with all at once!! At least all that money is for something that will last them a lifetime. And if it makes it so that they dont have any jaw pain or anything else later on, it's worth it!

Sorry to here that! I hope you get lots of cake orders! And save up to put your kids through dental school so they make big bucks when they're older! When you think about it, how in the world do they justify charging all of that money? I know there are follow up visits galore. That's probably the worst part, all the time it takes. Make sure you show the dentist and nurses your cake portfolio. AND NO DISCOUNTS FOR THEM!!!!

We decided to have our dd have her braces since it's really like an emergency for her before it's too late and they need to operate. So she will probably have them this spring. As for my son, well, after thinking about it, and talking about it, it's not that really important for now. It would be purely esthetics! When he smiles, it doesn't show that much, he can eat without problems, doesn't hurt, and his teeth are straight. Only his 2 front teeth aren't right in the middle, but it doesn't show that much. Except if you know about it and look really closely. So I'll have a talk with the orthodontist and only if she can show me proof that it requires immediate care, we'll wait until we're done with our dd.
DH told me today, that ONLY the meeting with her to take the measures, and to have her look at our kids was really expensive: she charged 176$$$$$ that's crazy! I think I'm going to talk my oldest son into going into dental care! Geez!

Ohhh the JOY of Braces!!! Have them do some xrays on those missing teeth!!! When our oldest daughter was in high school she must have been 17 or so the dentist that we had gone to since the kids were babies... brought to our attention that she was missing a tooth. So we went to the orthodontist and they found the tooth acrually there but laying on it's side and not pointing down like most teeth... She still had the baby tooth at that point so they pulled the baby tooth... cut into her gums and hookied a bracket onto the tooth and hooked a chain to the bracket. Each time she came in they tightned the chain and pulled the tooth down into place. She now has a beautiful smile... however she had her braces on for 4 years. Our youngest daughter had them twice... and we were just going through some old pictures this evening and she said... geezz mom I am sure thankful that you had my braces on. She noticed what a difference it made! So... there are benefits but they are expensive!!! Best if luck!!!

yes they did xrays, and there's no teeth in sight!!! Really missing teeth!

My dad says I made those kids with recycled parts, so it misses some things!

I don't think that's unusual and it runs in families. I always wondered why I had a gap in between my 2 front upper teeth. Years later, I went to a new dentist & he told me I was missing the 2 teeth next to the two front ones. I went home & told my mother and she said me t0o. I guess that's why I didn't realize anything was wrong. The dentist was amazed how my bite lined up.

I only had 2 wisdom teeth come in... the other two never did. The dentist did not realize until our daughter was 17 that there was a tooth there. They looked back on all of her xrays as she was growing up and it never showed up then when she was 17 it showed up but growing the wrong direction. Wierd

My new dentist at the time notice my missing teeth & was looking for them in the Xrays & they just aren't there.

I had never heard of this story until it happened to my co-worker's granddaughter. She was born with a tooth out. They had to extract it right away so that it didn't come out and choke her. Then another one again and it had to be extracted.
