Default Strong storms in Georgia

My family lives in Southwest Georgia, and my little sister called me right after lunch today to tell me that their power had been out since 10AM. This tropical storm that came up from the Gulf is just sitting and spinning on them. It's been nothing but heavy rain and intense wind since daybreak, and it's still not letting up. They do have a generator but they are using it sparingly. They are still under tornado watch, and my sister said her front yard looks like a swamp already. (Nothing like wet, slippery red Georgia clay!!) ....My grandparents had a massive live-oak tree fall that sits in the front of their house. It was hundreds of years old. That should give some idea of how strong the winds they are getting are. I'm so thankful the tree missed their house! They live down a long red-clay dirt road, so getting down there to haul it away should be "fun." And my parents live on the lake!! My sister said they were going to be staying with my grandparents til the storm goes by, so that's so comfort at least, just in case the water goes crazy. My little brother was thinking about trying to go to my sister's house, but there's at least 2 inches of water running across the roads, so he was waiting it out. There are whole towns without power, all 4 different towns that my family lives in down there are completely without power, and the power company is estimating at least 3 days to get it back up and running. My sister said the whole town was really blindsided by this-- No one expected it to be this strong. I guess one good part of it being such a small town is that part of our family owns the grocery store, and since everyone knows everyone, they opened the store today and just let everyone in the town charge what they needed for the next few days and take it home.

So please keep my family and everyone else down in that part of the country in your prayers!! ...Ironbaker, I know you're up in Atlanta, how's it all going there?!

I hope it passes for them soon and they get their power back. They are very lucky that oak tree missed the house! I hope they all remain safe.

That part of the state and parts of FL are really getting it bad. Especially FL.

It's been very windy here the past couple of days but not bad, just enough to feel really good outside. It's a welcome relief from the hot weather - high 70s/low 80s. It stormed today and probably will tomorrow but not too bad. Just gloomy and windy. I like storm weather as long as everyone's OK and it's not too bad.

Yeah I totally agree with loving the cool rainy weather so long as it's not going nuts outside!! The storm has pretty much passed them now--it's moved on into Alabama so theyre just getting scattered storms off of it, but at least it's not creating a pond in the front yard anymore haha! And crews are working to try and restore their power today, so hopefully they'll be able to! My sister has a 1 year old little boy, so no power has been interesting for her.

Glad to hear the worst of it's over!

That week we went without power last Christmas had to be the worst! I don't ever want to do that again.

My Mama just called to ask me to check the weather for them since they have no way to check it. Now they are having tornadoes and severe thunderstorms. Crazy weather!! I'll be glad when all this goes away from them!

Wow thank God the tree missed the house, my prayers are with your family, My husband is in Florida, left last week (military orders) he called today and said it was raining something awful there. They have some flooding.I hope that storm leaves soon, and everything can go back to normal for everyone in it's path.
