Celebrity Food Show Tomorrow!!!

The Celebrity Food show is tomorrow!!!! It'll be held in Anaheim, Calif and I have NO idea what to expect! I'm hoping there will be lots of vendors and I can find some cool stuff....there will also be food and alcohol to sample so I warned my mom (whom I'm taking) that she may need to drive HOME!

Oh yeah - and I'm gonna see a live show featuring DUFF and his CREW!!! Whoo Hoo!!!! There's a limited meet and greet on Sunday where you can chat with Duff & try his cakes out (for the low low price of $125!) that I MIGHT be crazy enough to sign up for (sorry Mom -but I could not afford it for TWO) - but I'll stick to Friday for now! can't wait! Ought to be FUN!!

You are soooooooo lucky! That sounds like a ton of fun! Have a great time and think of all of us slaving away on wedding cakes this weekend!!!!

Ok - here's the update! Saw the Ace of Cakes show - it was AWESOME!!! (Did not go to the "Meet & Greet") Duff. Geof, and Mary Alice (?) were there.....the first "show" which I did not see - they carved cakes and crumb coated them. MY show they applied fondant and decorations to the cakes. I can only imagine the last show they applied additional decorations and assembled the cakes. I think we saw the best show! He made a three tier stacked cake that was wide on the top & smaller on the bottom - he showed tips and tricks to fondanting -such as how to work the fondant (SLOWLY) and to use a pizza cutter to cut fondant as it makes the cleanest mark. During his demonstration Mary Alice answered questions from the audience. one person asked if it was true that they were opening a second location in California - to which they seemed stunned. She finally answered that she could neither "confirm or deny" the fact - and then said it's a SECRET - had anyone heard of THAT??? But they were on stage for an hour and were very entertaining...I of course purchased my "Charm City Cake" shirt while I was there. Oh! One other thing...someone asked what advise Duff would give to a up-and-coming cake designer..to which he replied " Don't follow the Rules - which of course got a GREAT big Cheer!!!1

Great! You can tell he makes the rules as he goes! That's what I love to hear! What works for one... will not work for someone else. That is why I think the forums are so fantastic. I have never taken a class so I am sure that some of the ways I do things are totally outside the box but they work for me and that is what is important! I have learned through trial and error that you always start from the top on fondant and work slow and stretch as you go. I never really pull on it but just gently stretch as I go. The pizza cutter... I have always used just because when I first started working with fondant I tried a knife and it always tore it instead of cutting so I switched to the pizza cutter and never looked back. I bought a pizza cutter just for my cakes.

I am glad you got to go listen and learn from him. He is a great inspriation to everyone. Maybe the California thing has to do with TV and Hollywood???? The client list he could have down there would be amazing!!! Too bad we all can't be so fortunate to get the kind of money that he makes!!! Some day, I would love to blow a cake up like he does... I am a bit challenged in that area though! I'd blow up eveything in sight I am sure!!!
