ok, I'm a big fan of Ace of Cakes. I love their work, they are great artists, no doubt about this. But one thing puzzles me. Actually DH made me realise this: they never wear hairnets or hats or something (except Duff but he's the only one that actually don't have HAIR!!!) Here with all the regulations it's a law, we have to wear hairnets or an appropriate hat. And it's not like they have their hair in ponytails or something they're loose and sometimes almost touching the cakes. My dh even told me that even though their cakes are extremely AMAZING he would never order from there because of the fear of finding a hair in it.

What's your thoughts about this? I would never decorate a cake without having my hair secured so nothing falls out, and you? I'm just asking...

Still a big fan of the show though hey where else do you want to learn how to make those things??

If you notice... none of the designer/decoraters ever wear hats or protective nets during the shows... in competitions... during any food shows... maybe it is a TV thing. Why don't you e-mail them and ask? I have e-mailed them before and they do respond. Gotta look good for the camera... and Duff... well... nothing much could change his look... he's got the cutest smile and the most outrageous laugh!

I think what we see on tv is work done strictly for the cameras. I don't think what we see them working on is the actual cake being delivered.

That's what I thought: it was for TV. Because they even say on their website that NOONE can access their shop to simply visit, because of the regulations. That's why I wondered why they don't where hairnets then! It's a logical explanation. that works for me, as far as what goes for dh, well, we won't never be able to afford one of their cakes anyway, so I guess he doesn't need to worry about that! lol

I did notice that they work with their hair hanging down. I never wear one & never thought about it. I would die if there was one in one of my cakes!

I clean the floors and counters and wipe down everything before I do a cake and afterwards....recently I found a hair floating around in the dish water close to wear my cake was and I almost threw up..it was the thought ya know? That could've snuck into my cake!
I cant imagine the state ok-ing a shop to go against state laws and prepare food without proper protection from contaminates.....even if he is Duff.
It surely has to demo cakes we see, surely.......

Those of you who bake in your home and sale your cakes do you have pets? If so how do you control the hair?

I keep my dogs on the back porch, my cat always stays in the basement. So I forbid anyone to come into my kitchen after I clean, dust, and sweep as well as wipe down all surfaces with bleach water.
I do not use fans in or near my kitchen as well as a filter over over heating/cooling vents so no thing floats through there either.
As soon as we find a new house I will have a separate kitchen/work room just for my cakes and all my stuff, until then I make do the best I can and have never, knock on wood, had a hair issue but it is a nightmare for me.
