Default Prayers for my son please :)

I'll start by saying he's getting tons better already, but he still could use some prayers!! On Friday my youngest woke up with a fever of 101, and wasnt wanting to eat anything or swallow anything to the point that he was just walking around drooling and crying. He had been absolutely FINE on Thursday night, so I took him to the pediatrician and they said it looked like he has a version of hand-foot-mouth virus, even though he doesnt have any blisters on his hands and feet, just in his mouth and throat. They said it definately came from some other kids his age, bc in the past week they'd seen upwards of 25 kids who had it or some form of it-- the only place he'd been around any other kids this past week was at the church nursery. So I guess he picked it up there; they said the incubation period was 4-5 days, so it fits. We called and told them they need to clean their toys, so that no one else gets sick, and so that if he did indeed get it from there, no one else would bc we dont want any other little ones to be so sick!

It's been a couple LONG days and nights. He is finally able to drink a little bit. He had a cup of pedialyte yesterday, and some apple juice today. And he ate a few buttered noodles last night. And bless his heart, he wanted some cake so bad-- he kept saying "Cuh-keek!" (that's cupcake, for those unable to interpret 2-year-old LOL)....I gave him one and he cried after every bite but that little man ate that cupcake and loved it. We had made them on Thursday night before he got sick. Our pediatrician said it didnt matter if he just wanted vanilla pudding and koolaid, that if he can get it down, to let him have it! I spent all day yesterday cleaning the house really well; I cant even tell you how many legos and cars I washed..So that's been the gist of my weekend. My husband has actually been taking the night shift so that I could sleep. The little one was waking up everytime he'd swallow and he'd cry so bad, but last night he was just at the point that he wasnt feeling well and wanting to be held.

My husband is SO good with him--he can always get him to take at least a few bites and make him laugh even when he's feeling so bad. This is the one that loves to eat at least 3 breakfasts everyday!! So for him to go from eating all the time, to hardly at all, it's really tough for him; esp because he's still hungry, he just cant get it down without pain. Since its a virus, there's no medicine for it, but they've had us alternating Tylenol and Motrin for him to try and manage the pain. The doctor said that yesterday was probably going to be the worst day, and that he'd start to get better after that, so prayerfully that's correct and he'll start to get better fast!! I think once he can actually sit down and eat a meal without it hurting him that he'll feel so much more like himself!!

I hope he gets to feeling better soon....It's so hard to see our little ones go through such illnesses and when they are small they have no clue how to tell you what hurts and my heart goes out to them. It's a shame that these viruses are popping up like they do, when in fact when we were little we didnt have these types of illnesses and it's hard for us to understand them and how to treat them. We also had a scare this past week, my 8 month old niece had staph infection on her left breast, they had to do surgery to clear it up..she is doing great now, but to get staph at that age is truly scary to everyone. She was also diagnosed with menigitis 5 months ago and wow what a truly trying and scary time for all of us...thank the good lord above it was viral and not bacterial...So any type of illness or virus that comes about to our little ones these days is definitely a worrysome and trying time for any and all parents. My prayers are with you and your little one for a full recovery!

Thanks guys!! He is acting more himself as the day progresses--he's been up playing with his big brother, and he actually just asked me for juice! He didnt drink much, but he did at least drink some on his own accord and without me begging! That's okay though; we've at least been having wet diapers...I was scared for a while since he wasnt wanting to drink anything bc his pediatrician said that if he stopped peeing that we'd need to take him to the hospital to get an IV for dehydration. Many times when they're so little and it hurts so bad to swallow, they get dehydrated bc they just wont or cant get anything down. He's been to the dr 2 times in the past 3 days. I took him back yesterday morning to ask again if there was nothing we could do to make him more comfortable. They did tell me I could put baby orajel on the inside of his mouth where it's sore. And to take 1 tsp of benadryl and 1 tsp of Maalox, and mix them and then "paint" that solution onto the sores and that would numb them--I'd never heard that before!! They said they usually get older kids who get it to gargle with that, but since he's so little I just put some of it on his inside of his lip where it was hurting. So mostly I've just stuck with the baby orajel! He hates it but it does help him to be able to eat a bit afterward. And it's all clearing up really quickly.... Now if I can only get him to nap today haha!

...That's so scary about the staph and meningitis!! I would have been a wreck! I guess I don't do so well with feeling like things are so out of my control. I get so worked up and anxious and worried! There are just so many things out there that can make our kids sick these days; it's scary!!

I'm so happy he's starting to feel a little better. It is truly awful to have a little one that sick and to be told there's no medication to help them feel better, that it just has to run its course. You'd rather you have to deal with it than your child!

Exactly!!! And on top of it, I have to worry about the older one getting it too. I'm hoping he won't, but he does have some dark red dots on the roof of his mouth right above the tonsils. So I'm fully expecting to go through this with him too...I really hope not though!

I got Peyton to eat some lunch just now--he had 2 big serving spoons of apple sauce, a container of vanilla pudding, and (gasp!) 5 big bites of spaghetti with sauce--totally HIS choice not mine; I was cringing letting him have it bc I thought it would hurt his throat. He was fine though. Now, the strawberry that he went and got out of the fridge is a different story! Those are his VERY favorite; 3 bites and lots of crying later, he threw it to our dog. Oh great, thinking about it...now I bet the dog gets sick too :( *SIGH*

oh gosh, I cannot imaggine what it has been like for you. Here I have been sorry for myself for just having a whiney 2yr old who is cutting molars! Now I know that is not so bad. I hope the little one keeps improving and that your oldest is able to fight it off. Healthy vibes being sent your way.

LadyDZA hope he's feeling better now. It's the worst time to have kids sick and not be able to help them.
