Kick-butt thread!
Ok since the weight-loss thread seems to be dead... I decided that maybe it's time to change the approach on our weight-loss support.
So here's a kick-butt thread! Post tips you've learn to lose weight, cool website links, a cool DVD for exercise you want to recommend!
And also feel free to tell what's on your heart!
So here I'll begin:
Jillian Michaels weight loss plan, online fitness program
You can get a free profile. You can subcribe to the website for more support, but even if you don'T subscribe you can get daily emails with tips and motivation words.
I also try to use her DVD : 30-day shred whenever I can (even though I haven'T done it in a while)
Also in September I'll take part in a group called : Choosing to lose weight? The question mark is because it's not a weight-loss group, it's to understand why we think we need to lose weight, and deal with our emotions, everything is related... this might really help me.
Who's next?

Re: Kick-butt thread!
It's so neat to come here and see that I am not the only one in the middle of this. I started on my weight loss plan in March, I am down 29lbs. so far with about 16 to go to my final goal.
As far as what works, when I started, I got a dry erase marker and marked my weight on my bathroom mirror. I "weigh in" in my bathroom every Monday and track my progress on my mirror. I find it keeps me really motivated. Also, it always helps to have a buddy. My Mom has been great support (kudos to her for loosing 48lbs. so far!).
Also, I purchased Wii Fit which I absolutely love. It's fun and easy, as well as motivating!
It's really all about choices and portion control. Good luck and keep it going! If you slip, don't get discouraged, you're allowed to eat what you want once in a while, just make sure to get back on track at your next meal!

Re: Kick-butt thread!
Portion control and exercise! that's the best combination!!!
At my highest, in January of 2007 I was 220 pounds. In September I started seeing a nutritionist, Here where I live, in Quebec/Canada, when you ask your doctor to see a nutritionist, he/she writes a prescription, you go to your hospital and you get an appointement, free of charges for the entire time she needs to see you. So since september, I go once a month to get weighed, and analyse my eating and exercising habits. She's the one that started the group I'll attend in September this year. She's helped by a social worker for this. I can'T wait. I know I have tons of emotional issues that triggers my bad habits... Anyway, when I started seeing her last Spetember, I had managed by myself, to get down at 204 pounds. Now at the last weigh-in at her office I was at 190.75 pounds. Still need to lose another 50 pounds, but I prefer looking at smaller goals. Now my next goal is to get at 180 pounds. or to fit in the pants I've bought from Ebay last month. Just can't get them pass my hips, almost but not quite there.... The day they'll zipp you'll here my scream of joy in your house, let me tell you!

Re: Kick-butt thread!
I know what you mean. The first time I put on the jeans I was wearing when I started dating my current boyfriend (5 years ago) I almost died!
I started at 190. I'm down to 161 now (145 is my final goal) and am thrilled. I set small goals along the way (10 lbs. at a time).
Congrats on your loss so far! My Mom started at 255, she is striving to get under the 200 mark now.

Re: Kick-butt thread!
Way to go to your mom!!!! My mom never was big, she was always thin, but was always on a diet.... She was the one that got me on my first diet... looking back at my old pictures I didn't even needed to lose weight but she made think I did... Then I started to gain weight. My dad always called me "big-butt". Yes I have junk in my trunk, so what? I wasn't fat, it was my body shape! I'm a pear shape. So that's where my self-esteem issues started. That's I think that support group my nutritionist is starting will help me a lot. It's a 14 weeks thing, with tons of workshops with specialists.
I wish I could have a buddy to help me with my new life-style. But the friends I have that needs to lose weight don't want to, or if they want to lose weight they want a fast, easy trick. Which doesn't work. And dh can eat whatever he wants and never take a pound! His work is really physical, and when he's home he never stops, always something to do... He took only 15 pounds since we've met, but all in muscle mass! darn! And I feed him cake 2 times a day!
That's why I rely on forums to help me. I need to talk to people with the same issues!
aahhhh that felt good!

Re: Kick-butt thread!
I was surfing the internet to find something interesting about weight loss and I came across this site:
Free Calorie Counter, Weight Loss Calculators, and Weight Loss Tutorial | CaloriesPerHour.com
There's tons of great tools, to know how much calories you spent, or consume, and other stuff I didn't have time yet to check! I'm going back there!
Hope it helps someone!

Re: Kick-butt thread!
I'm glad you found that! I hope it helps greatly. I know how the self esteem issues go, I had a father that was very hard on me for most of my life, and my bf is he same as your dh. He's been the same weight (twig) since his Junior year of high school... so annoying !!

Re: Kick-butt thread!
God bless you all for all you've done so far. I was always pretty slim & started to put on weight when I got married and then when I was in the midst of menopause. I was always hungry. I was happy to put on a few pounds but then put on 5 lbs more than I needed. Was trying to get that off and gained another 5 and another. I probably need to drop 15-20 to be good for my 5" frame & just can't do it. I don't have the freedom I had a few years ago with my mom here who can't be left alone. I should probably just put her in the wheelchair and push her around the neighborhood!!! She can't walk too, too far so we got the chair to go shopping.

If any of you have Comcast, you can go to OnDemand under Sports and Fitness, and Jillian Michaels has her 30-day shred workout and a couple others on there for free!
