Unhappy CA Fires

It's so smoky outside!! It has been like this for at least 3 weeks now.
Yesterday was the worst we've seen, the thick smoke came down and stayed very low for most of the day. I could barely see across my front yard, and definetly couldn't see across freeway. And having the weather at 106 and over is not helping.

We are in Oregon and a lot of hazy days here too! Today we have blue sky and it doesn't smell smokey. Last week the wind was blowing the smoke from CA up here and combined with the smaller fires we have going it was pretty smokey. Couldn't see the mountains and I love seeing the mountains! We have one that started just outside of town yesterday, is blowing away from town at this time and the area it is in is juniper trees and sage brush. No homes close by. We own some property out that way and hope our trees don't burn down. We kind of like having them on there! It is pretty far from there at this point though. And there are homes in there so they would work hard to keep it out of there. The wind is supposed to pick up this afternoon and so things could not be good for the firefighters.

We had something like this happen in 2005. The town here almost got evacuated. The smell of smoke was being smelled even in the north of USA... That's not a good thing to happen.
Hope everything will turn out for the good soon!

They say they are getting at least one of the mager fires under control, I pray the rest subside soon!

Our air here in Central Oregon is clear again. I think most of the fires around here are quiet for now... till the next thunder & lightning storm... or until some fool lights a fire in the woods when they are not supposed to! California is not as fortunate as we are right now. We did have a ton of snow in the mountains this winter so it is pretty green up high here... still snow in some spots!

Hopekesia...
What part of CA are you in? I just heard on the news that San Diego county is a mess now! I love San Diego it is such a wonderful place! We are looking at a thunder storm today hopefully the lightning will be minimal. We have a bit of smoke high in the sky today but not too much.

I'm in Sacramento
Two hours away from Lake Tahoe and two hours away from San Francisco. Right in the middle.

San Diego had horrible fires last year, we have friends who live there and he works as a postman. It's demanding job and he had to continue deliver letter when everyone was evacuating.. Unbelievable..
He was telling that hey had a think layer of ash on their cars every morning. Yuk!

It sounds like they have evacuated thousands of people again. It said Qualcom Stadium is being used as an evacuation center.

I get frustrated up here with all the people who will not allow management of our forrests. (sorry to anyone who does not believe in this... when you live in the middle of the forrested areas you understand more) When they managed the forrest and the under brush was kept down, trees thinned etc, we didn't have all the raging fires that we have now. Seems like someone might get a clue that forrest management is not all that bad if it burns up it is no good to anyone! On the way over the Santiam Pass here in Oregon a few years ago a fire raced through burning up thousands of acres of trees... it was such a beautiful place around Suttle Lake and now even 3 years later, it is still charred, barren land with burnt trees standing tall... no green... no beautiful forrest just a burned up mess. Now land slides since there is no tree roots to hold back the slides. What a mess. I better get off this subject. I could go on all day. It really irritates me!

Anyway... hope you are safe!

I agree with you. They should do the forrest management if it saves lives and nature
