Default 2 Questions

Next week I will be working on a cake for my 30th birthday celebration on the 17th. There will be 20-30 people in attendance...I plan on making a 10" round 4" high and a 8" round 4"high stacked cake. How many do you think this will feed? Should I make a bigger cake? and the second question is how do I get that metalic silver look I see on so many cakes? Any info would be most helpful. Thanks in advance

Sarah

Yes, plenty of cake! Which silver look are you speaking of? Most silver is done with luster dust mixed with vodka or lemon extract so you can paint with it.

that's a 10 inch-30 and 8 inch-20 serving cake so you'll be fine!
I agree silver is luster dusts with alcohol or extracts used to make it a paint.

The sizes are fine for the number of services, but you are going to have a bit of extra cake, since they are 4" high. You could go with a 10" and a 6", and be ok... and the look will be even better.

For the silver, the luster dust air brushed or painted with a brush, depending of how the design goes. Other alternative, is using silver fabric ribbons to enhance the cake (wrapping around the tiers and making a large bow for the top -you need the ribbon to be wired in this particular case)
