Default Red Velvet Recipe

I just made red velvet cupcakes last night using Paula Dean's recipe on food network. They were so good! My husband LOVED them! So did I! So, i sent them to work with him today! His marines always love when i send goodies to work!

The only thing I didn't have was 2 oz. of red food coloring..i only had 1 oz...so they weren't as deep of a red as i think they should have been...oh well!

Here is the link to the recipe if anyone wants to try them! OH! And I just realized that i forgot to take a pic of them before i sent them off. i have one more in the fridge for my daughter when she gets home from school. If i remember, i'll snap a pic of it and post it!

Red velvet is one of my most favorite cakes to eat - I even love it sans frosting.

I made a red velvet once with the 2 oz of red food coloring, but used the Hershey's Special Dark Cocoa instead of the normal stuff, and it was a bee-you-tee-full deep shade of red.

Oh! I forgot to mention you also tasted a bit more of the chocolate flavor too. It's not a deep chocolate cake of course, but I did like the slightly more pronounced chocolate flavor.
