I downloaded a couple of those once. It just made my head spin. They sound like a good idea, but just too much work for lazy ol' me.

you really need the pricing in your area. It varies so much place to place a general pricing range couldn't work for us all.
Look at your area do find the highest and lowest compare your work and time and all that then try to go middle of the road and see if that wont cover you acceptably.

i agree. each area is so different!!

the first thing i did is make spread sheet for my most expensive cake to make. just the cake...no filling or icing. i broke each ingredient down to how much it cost for the recipe....1 egg costs $0.21.

after i figured out the cost of the cake, i did the same thing for icing and fillings. i then used those numbers to figure out the cost for each size cake i offer.

next, add in cost of disposables: cake boards, boxes, icing bags (i average 7 per cake), paper towels for cleaning (i average 1 per cake), etc.

i add in my delivery fee and my taxes. i got tired of figuring taxes so i just wanted a nice round number!

then i rounded up to the closest $5.00 and added what i thought my profit could be but not be a ridiculous amount for a cake....that is my price.

extras are fondant, fondant figures, 3-d sculpting, etc.

i then check the other bakers in my area who had there prices listed. i found out that i am about the same except that they either don't deliver or charge an additional $10-15 to do so.

sorry so long....just my system.

elizw you just made my head spin. too much math!!!! LOL but that's a good strategy. Everytime my grandma asks me how much my cupcakes cost I will say, I'll get back to you on that. and it annoys her. she wants me to start selling them full time. LOL
