Re: Air Brushing
Thanks! You've pushed me over the fence. I definitely need one! Deep red in minutes, and it's only football sized? I'm sold!
I asked for an intotheoven gift certificate for Christmas, maybe I'll be checking those out soon .gif)

Re: Air Brushing
Well then, I've done my job!
The next best thing to shopping myself is talking someone else into it!

Re: Air Brushing
Ha ha ha! Well, you have definitely done your job! First you tell me about the fondant squisher thing, now you talk me into the airbrush gun, and just today I was in Hobby Lobby looking at rubber stamps with a whole new meaning. I need to stop checking the forums until I win the lottery! .gif)

Re: Air Brushing
While I am waiting for my gift certificate to get my airbrush gun ( .gif) ), I was wondering if anyone has used the Wilton spray colors.
I have a cake next week that calls for land and sky. I really want something nicer than a half green, half blue cake.
Do the spray colors work on buttercream, or does it just drip off?
If they don't work on buttercream, does anyone have any suggestions for me to make the sky a little more realistic?
I would appreciate any advice.
thanks!

Amanda, not sure how the Wilton colors are, but their quality usually isn't as a lot of other stuff out there.
Keep in mind, if you buy the set from our site, it comes with 12 2oz bottles of colors already for you to use from ChefMaster. You can view some information about them here: Chef Product List and here: Fast Food Facts
Chefmaster also provides a great online color wheel chart so you can figure out the best combination to get the colors you want here: Colorwheel

Re: Air Brushing
Oh, don't worry. I am DEFINITELY buying from your site. I just can't justify the $ right before x-mas.
I just need something to get me through this cake. (I sound like and addict, don't I? ha ha ha) I figured the Wilton colors are what, $5. ? I can hack that for now. But if anyone has tried them and know they are junk, then I won't waste my money. And, I would love to know how to make a realistic-ish sky in buttercream and without an airbrush gun.
My son has picked out just about the most difficult Lightning McQueen birthday cake I could imagine. At least it's a family cake. I don't usually stress about those. Of course, they don't usually look as good either! .gif)

Re: Air Brushing
I have a couple of cans of the Wilton sprays. They're fine for what they do, you just don't get a lot of control with them so fine details would be difficult. But, since you're talking about doing sky, I would think it would work fine. They do work with buttercream.
Just like an airbrush though, that spray will go everywhere so be sure and create some kind of blocked off area to use them.
I really can't help you on making the sky though...the artistic part of cake decorating is just not my strong suit. I can do fondant, make buttercream flowers, borders..etc., but ask me to draw a cartoon stick figure and I'm lost!

Re: Air Brushing
That's too funny! I can't draw either!! You should see the pitiful sketch of this cake!
Thanks for the spray info. That will make doing the sky much easier!

Re: Air Brushing
I LOVE to airbrush cakes! I airbrush the majority of my cake orders so they look very realistic in texture, etc. I went to the craft store and bought a Pasche brand airbrush in the oil paint supply section for $19.00. Then I went to Menards and bought a small 2 gallon air compressor for $30.00. So for around $50, I have a complete system and I absolutely LOVE it!!! The air compressor you buy, just make sure you can adjust the airflow, most of them you can, just ask the guys at Menards for help on that question!
Have a great day!

Re: Air Brushing
I purchased the KromaJet almost three years ago; when I wasn't doing as many cakes it was fine, but now that I do more and airbrush on every cake (with luster dust usually) I have found that the airbrush is lacking. I definately wish that I had purchased the upgraded model to begin with. With that said, I love the look of airbrushing, especially when you use luster dust.
Does anyone know how the sets that are sold here compare to the KromaJet?
