Default Legalizing Your Kitchen

Anyone out there "legal"? Have you got any tips for the rest of us, who are making that our future goal?

What types of things do you own? How is your kitchen set up? Any tips for inspections?

Thanks!

Jodi

Default legalize kitchen

Hi I'm new to this site. I am not legal but I belong to cakecentral.com and there is a forum all about what states will let you go legal and how to get legal if you want to. It gives you all the information regarding what is needed and what paperwork is needed to apply. If your interested it is any easy site to join. It's worth looking into it if you want to be legal.

Wish I could be of help, but the rules and regulations vary from place to place so much that what was required of me may not apply to you at all.

I know here I had to have a room that was completely separate from my home with its own entrance. I also have to have commercial appliances along with a mop sink, hand washing sink and a 3 compartment sink.

There were a ton of regulations regarding plumbing and wiring..had to have licensed electricians and plumbers. It was expensive getting it done, but in Oklahoma they just don't differentiate between a home based business and retail stores. I had to meet the same standards any bakery or restaurant has to meet.

I'd suggest getting in touch with whoever handles licensing. Here it's the dept. of health. They were really helpful in showing me exactly what I needed to do so I would waste time and money with things that either I didn't need or wouldn't pass inspection.

It's hard when the people who are supposed to be in charge don't give consistent answers.

If you're sure the agency you're contacting is the place that handles licensing, I'd suggest calling them and asking them to send you a copy of the rules and regulations regarding licensing a home based kitchen.

I'm sure they have such a thing. They can be long and complicated (mine was!), but at least you'll have something on paper that tells you what you need.

Good luck!

yes, yes. These rules so vary from state to state that it is deff a good idea to get it in writing so you can go back look and relook to make sure you have exactly what they look for.
