i'm going to freakin' SCREAM!

it is 11:20pm and all i have to do is finish this small red velvet cake for a last minute order for a valued customer. so, i open up the pecans to put into the icing for the filling and some sort of insect nested in the bag. there are webs everywhere - GROSS! it is a brand new bag that i bought today at the store!!! so, i taped the bag up and am planning a little trip to talk to the store manager tomorrow.

worst part is the cake is leaving with my husband tomorrow morning at 7:00 am so the customer can get it from him since she is closer to where he works. i normally deliver my cakes but my hubby helps out for the deliveries WAY across town.

so, she will not have pecans in her filling and i know she will understand. she is a great customer. i'm really disappointed in PLANTERS brand pecans. i couldn't even find a "use by" date anywhere on the bag. i'm totally creeped out!!!

just thought i would vent while i wait for the crumb coat to chill so i can finish the cake.

I hate when those kind of things happen and you are working on a deadline!!

LOL ~ I feel for ya! I've known that frustration too.

The store manager has no control over the little bug that was probably just napping, minding his own business, and then his nut apartment got picked and packaged. He had nothing else to do so he started a family in his little world. Then you found him! LOL

Seriously, these things happen. It's not the manager's fault...it's just one of those things. Fruit flies like fruit, nut bugs love nuts, weevils love flour, kids love Skittles....it's not that unusual to find pests in your food from time to time.

i'm not upset with the store manager. it is a great store and they all know me since i get all of my ingredients from them. i'm annoyed that there isn't a freshness date on the nuts. pecans will go bad and stale after a while even if sealed. i hope he will consider pulling the stock and sending it back to planters/kraft. i'm sure he will refund my money!

i finally got to bed at 2:00am. last week was a tiring week of cakes and little sleep. i'm hoping i can crash tonight!

eeeewww, bugs are not a protein source for my cakes either!
But those darn little weevils and such try!
I'd take it back too but the poor manager, can you imagine having to explain to someone why the food the bought from you has bugs?
even if it's not your fault as manager your left holding the bag....a pecan encrusted nut bug bag at that!

I always buy one more than I need of everything. Usually because I'm terrified I'll mess up and have to start over! That little quirk has saved my butt several times.
