I only have Wilton tips but was considering buying some Ateco tips. Which tips do you prefer??

i have both and truly can not tell the difference in quality. both will flatten out quite nicely in the garbage disposal!!

if you are doing stringwork, i've heard that ateco is better since it doesn't have a seam. since this technique is so far beyond my talents i haven't given it much thought.

Check if ICES is in your area. I haven't joined yet because I never seem to be able to go to the Day of Sharings that they have. They have had Toba Garrett, Buddy Valastro do demos and a lot of other talented people. No one else was demonstrating when Buddy was there so he just kept decorating cake after cake.

I learned stringwork in the Wilton classes & was awful at it & decided to try it on a cake once & it was easier than I thought. I needed to perk up a petal pan cake which probably made it easier. I used a tip that was a little too thick but was happy it turned out pretty good. Give it a try again. Don't let that extra batter & icing go to waste. You know what they say "If you want to get to Carnegie Hall, PRACTICE!"

2sdae, shame on us! We are lucky to have the opportunity to go. It's only about 20 mins from me. It starts about 8:30 & they have a light continental breakfast, then a lunch & afterwards around 4, they have cake that some people bring. I hate to leave Mom home with my DH all day but heck, it's only 4 times a year. I was going to go to the one tomorrow finally and they had to cancel it.
