i have the wilton pan for making a doll cake. i've heard of others using their kitchen aid mixing bowl, bundt cake pan and pyrex bowls...all with great success. also, whatever way you go, it is a good idea to bake an additional round layer (8 or 9 inch pan) for the "bowl" cake to sit on. it adds enough to the "skirt" for the proportions to be correct.

The are a couple of issues with making a doll cake out of your own bowl is you are locked in on size, but you can, as stated earlier, add an additional layer under neath. You also have to dig out a hole to insert doll into unless you use a doll pic or the doll pan itself. But a lot of little girls want specific
characters these days.
I have heard it aid you can lop off barbie at her torso to use or wrap her legs super tight with saran wrap and insert her that way.

i just wrap barbie's legs in plastic wrap. i also wrap her hair in foil and fix it so it is not on the shoulders. easier to decorate. when all is done....i let her hair down.

Lopping off the legs sounds so like the serial killer on Dexter.
I will try using the large pyrex bowl and then add a additional cake layer to the bottom. This is for the little girl at church who was going to have a Minnie theme and then they have changed to Barbie theme. Thanks for all your help. As usual you guys are so full of help.

I thought I would make one to see how it turns out and then do the one for the party.

If you chose to "lop off" the legs, don't let your little ones see you! Poor things would need therapy!!! LOL
