Default Stem?

I'm doing a pumpkin shaped cake for a halloween party, my mom made one years ago and used a swiss cake roll for a stem (I'm using a bundt cake pan) but I think I want something more real looking. Any ideas? I thought about fondant and coloring and shaping it, I'm just not sure how-I didn't get that far in my cake decorating classes

Shaping one out of fondant is really pretty easy but really hard to describe how to do, at least for me it is! If you're not comfortable with trying that yet, I've seen several pumpkin cakes where they cut the top off of an ice cream cone, inverted it and iced it or covered it in fondant for the stem.

I have used an ice cream cone upside down covered with fondant. That was fun!

Oh that sounds like a good idea, maybe I could use those flat bottomed ones and turn it upside down. Now I think my bundt pan may be too short (I'm trying out one of those silicon ones, I've never used them before) so I'm thinking of doing two and flipping the bottom one, I guess I'll see tomorrow if it cracks or not, I don't know if it will be too much weight to hold but I want a good size so I can put on a decent face.

If you're worried about the bottom layer holding up, you could always cut a ring out of a cake board and add support dowels. Most of the pumpkin cakes I've seen using a bundt pan use two cakes like you're talking about doing.

I really thing as long as you're using a firm cake you should be fine.

I made one, once. Molded rice krispy trats & coated in buttercream (still afraid of fondant, lol!)
