Thanks Mona1949 for the recipe, it looks like my mom's recipe....
those little things are so yummy.... even I, who don't really likes chocolate cakes, find myself eating those .... Kids and hubby are eating them like crazy! i've made 34 of those yesterday evening, and I have less than 10 left! I guess I'll have to bake my red velvet cake sooner than I thought

I wonder if they are like the little oreo cakesters that you can get. I have been wondering how a person could make them.

BTW those are so YUMMY!!!!!
You say that the pies are like chocolate cakes, baked like cookies,.........if I wanted to try to make these pies, could I use a reg. chocolate box cake mix and just pour in a pan as if making a cake and then cut with round cookie cutters? OR.....would I pour the cake batter in a pan really thin as to just cover the bottom of the pan? I know I sound confused but that's just because I AM!!!!

This batter is thick. so you spoon it on a baking sheet like cookies to bake them... if you cut the cakes after they're baked as a big cake, you have less whoopi pies, because of the scraps! and it takes less time baking them as cookies ....

Do you doctor up your box mix? if you do, no need to cut on the water it's thick enough, if you don't
here's what I do:
1 box cake mix
1 cup of flour
1 cup of sugar
pinch of salt
1½ cup of water
½ cup oil
1 teaspoon of vanilla
4 eggs

it should be just fine!
