Default Best pound cake recipe?

Would anyone be willing to share with me the best pound cake recipe to use for a cake that is going to be sculpted? I've heard the pound cakes are the best to use for shaping.

Thank you!!

Good question. I like to know too. I haven't sculpted a cake yet.

I don't use a pound cake for carving just because I don't generally like them. They're too heavy and dry for me!

I use the wasc (white almond sour cream) recipe that's listed on cakecentral. It makes a really firm cake, but not so heavy and dense as a pound cake...plus it's basically a doctored cake mix which I love doing!

This is my own recipe for pound cake and it is very good for sculpting. It is also very sweet and moist.
Butter vanilla pound cake.

Serves/Yields: 2-8in, 2-6 in+12 cupcakes

easy recipe for a pound cake type cake.Ingredients

3 cups all purpose flour
3 tsp. baking powder
1 package vanilla pudding
1/2 tsp. popcorn salt
1 1/2 cups butter or 2 1/2 sticks
2 2/3 cup sugar
1 tbs. heavy cream
1 cup heavy cream
1 tbs. vanilla bean paste or 1 vanilla bean scraped
6 large eggs
Directions

preheat oven to 325 f.

combine and sift flour, salt, and pudding package. Put in a bowl and set aside.

cream butter, sugar and vanilla thoroughly, add 1 tbs. of heavy cream and beat hard for 30 sec.

add the flour and 1 cup of heavy cream alternating between the two and scraping down the bowl at least 1 during this.

add eggs 1 at a time making sure each is incorporated before adding another. Scrape down sides of bowl 1/2 way through.

spoon into pans and bake until golden brown and cake springs back when gently touched.

This is a dense and sweet pound cake. Goes very well with butter cream dream icing or any creamy icing. This a little sweet to cover with chocolate icing in my opinion but that is just what it is, my opinion!

I really like the wasc. It tastes very good and has a great texture without being heavy.

I also like the doctored cake mix method. It's easy, but better yet, it's very inexpensive to use.

I buy cake mixes about 3 times a year. I use Pillsbury and after every holiday I go to target and stock up on their holiday cake mixes at 48 cents a box. They make them for Halloween, Christmas and Easter. I usually have just enough to last between holidays.

Yep...I'm a mix baker and proud of it!

I use mixes all the time. I have a few "premium" cake flavors that are from scratch, but the majority are doctored mixes. Everyone loves them, so why change it? I'd go broke if I made everything from scratch.

ps...I use Duncan Hines.

I have used doctored mixes often, but I too have my tried and true recipes I stick to as well.
