Looking for ideas Business' 25th anniversary!

My parents own a video club and this year marks their 25th anniversary. My dad had this great idea to help me promote my cakes too He asked me to make their 25th anniversary cake, to be showcased on the last weekend he works alone with my mom that month (so it'll be the 3rd or the 4th weekend of Sept.) He's going to make a big pub spot for the radio, and local newspaper to invite customers to come eat a piece of cake to celebrate with them. And I'll be there to serve cake! Well I have an idea of what I'd like to do, but need help to really come up with something WOW!
I'm thinking of making a flash back cake: in 3D, vhs tapes, beta tapes maybe a movie reel... and then going to DVDs and maybe put some movie titles that were really big in 1983 or something like that.. and to serve cake I'm planning on cupcakes with tiny themed stuff on them (again vhs tapes or DVDs)
What do you think? Do you have a great idea that would make people think WOW!!!

Since my father wants to help me boost my sales I need to really do something big and crazy (like my personnality) I want to show to the people here that there's more to cakes than sheet cakes!

I love the flashback idea!!! Way too cute, memorable and has that wow factor without looking overly done! Maybe a box of movie popcorn and a drink or a candy /chip bag with the stuff sitting on an old movie reel maybe!

YES! that's what was missing for the cake! thanks 2sdae! I have in a ACD mag I think, the how-to for popcorn! And besides, my dad sells freshly made popcorn there too! Why didn't I think of that I just can't wait to make that cake!!!!!

You both have great ideas. My only thought was maybe a cake based on a movie about movies or renting movies. There is one in the back of my mind but I can't think of it. I like all the different types of videos. Duff did one on Ace of Cakes. Check out his site or the Food Network. Maybe you can do cupcakes like little cups of popcorn? Get striped paper to wrap them?

To go with movies... you need to have the boxes of candy that they sell at the movie stores too! Make the boxes ahead out of fondant or gumpaste to look like the real boxes but spill the candy out of the boxes around the edges of the cake... And.. if you do cuppies... put a jujube or licorace or black crow or starburst or something on top of each cuppie.... Just add the candies last minute since the candy sometimes seeps onto the frosting. This will be a fantastic way to advertise! And what a great way to break in your new cake room!!!

Well the candy idea would be great, but my parents don't sell those. They buy candies in bulk and I'm the one that packages them by weight, and sealed.
I'm thinking, probably will do a VHS and Beta tapes, with the year 1983 written on them, and do a DVD (out of gumpaste) and write 2008. With a big bowl of popcorn on the side! with maybe a remote control, since you rent movies to watch at home!

For the cupcakes, I can't decide yet what I'll do on them... Maybe just a thank you note for the customers, they support my parents since the beginning.. or maybe the store logo. My parents' logo is easy to do... I could even print them out of edible paper. I don't know. I'm still thinking about this.
I haven't found a movie cake on Charm city cakes website. I'll have to go on Food network to check on that!

Will keep my eyes open when I am searching sites. You never know what might come up! Your ideas sound really great so far! Go with where your heart takes you. This will be a special cake for your parents as well as you!
