Default Cake groups, shows in your area...

I don't think it's been posted on a new thread yet but I thought we could start a list of cake groups, clubs, events in your state, that others might like to attend.

First off, check ICES.org if there is a group in your area.

Go to Meetup.com, that's where I signed up for the NJ Cake Decorators Club which has monthly workshops and demos. I am hoping I can make it to the carved dog class!! Woo Hoo!!!

I am waiting for my friend to give me the info on another group which does a one day event usually 4 times a year with guest stars including Toba Garrett & Buddy Valastro. I'm such a fan of his since I saw his wedding cake on the Food Network Challenge.

There is a big American bakery show in Atlantic City in September. I think it's every September. American Bakery Exposition
This year, demos & seminars by
Bronwen Weber Sculpted Cakes
Julie Bashore Rolled Fondant
Ron Ben-Israel Contemporary Decorating Technique
Robert Ellinger, CMB Chocolate Creations

I think they're having a Food Network Challenge there too or some kind of competition anyway. I just looked at the schedule & what I want is spread over the 3 days. I thought maybe I could sneak away for a day. :(

Anyone want to watch my mother so I can go?

Anyway, post what you know of in your area here so we can keep a list.

For GA/Atlanta residents:

There was a Creative Cake Club for the metro area which was great! But the girl who was heading it, stopped working at the bakery she was at so right now it's in limbo. But a new one started up through meetup.com (great site) for area decorators. The first meeting was last Tuesday but I didn't make it since I was packing.

The GA chapter of ICES meets every quarter in various parts of the states. The next meeting is August 17, B. Keith Ryder will be demonstrating as well as others.

Summer Day of Sharing
The Community House
Cleveland, GA 30528

The fall meeting, Rebecca Sutterby will be coming! She is holding classes you can sign up for also. If you're an ICES member, you have first dibs.

There is a club in the North GA area that I know of but I have yet to go since it's quite a drive for me. I think they meet once a month.

There is a North GA Wedding Cake Competition coming up. It started last year. This year's is August 16th - I do plan on going to that.

I did a search and there is nothing for Des Moines Iowa. I did get a hit for Bakery House and called the number and ended up talking for an hour or so to Louise who has a Bakery in her house and is the young age of 76. She has a full size kitchen in her basement and has been doing cakes for 30 some years. She was such a job to talk to. Monday night we had a storm here in Des Moines that left lots of tree branches all over. Louise told me that she takes a walk every morning and when she saw all these branches she thought it was God's way to pruning the weak branches and she asked God to prune her of her weakness. This woman was such a delight to talk to. Her husband is 91 and she takes care of him and bakes one Wedding cake a week. She has lost two sons in their 40's, she has broken her back, ankle, had a stoke and pancreatic cancer and still has a positive outlook on life and a great love for the God. When I woke up this morning I wasn't feeling well since i didn't sleep and was up at 4:00 am because of my leg burning so bad. I was going to call and cancel my Physical Therapy appointment for today, but after talking to Louise I feel so much better. She is my Guardian Angel from the Lord. Just had to share this great experience.

Ladies, you have to start something in your area then & make sure you invite that 76 year old lady. She has lots of knowledge. Look into that Meetup.com

I'm going to a demo by Kimmy from Kimmyskakes. You know her from CC. Dog carving. I've been dying to make the tote back with the puppy head sticking out so this might help.

Hey Jazz2u! Colette Peters is having a class at Peter's Valley in the beginning of September. Its in NJ. I wanted to go, but due to unforseen circumstances, I don't have the money anymore.

Here's a link to the site where you can sign up:
Peters Valley Craft Center: Craft Education, Store & Gallery - Layton, NJ 973-948-5200
