Question Luster Dust

Hi, my lovely ladies and gentleman
Question about the luster dust. I bought it from here and tried to play with the other night with some fondant flowers. How do I properly apply it? Do I need to apply a coat of alcohol first?
I applied it just on a fondant flowers but it doesn't seem to stick and when I take it with my fingers it all gets on my hands. Is this the way it should be?

I know your valuable tips will save me.

I make a paint mixing vodka and luster dust together until I get the consistancy of paint. And I paint my flowers!

You can paint like pootchi suggested, or dry dust. Either way, it only takes a little bit! If you paint with alcohol (and no, it won't leave a taste) it dries/evaporates VERY fast! I only use a couple of drops of vodka at a time.
I like to dry dust using a special set of "caking" make up brushes. Sometimes I go over my painted pieces with some dry dusting to give it a little extra sparkle.
Hope that helps! Have fun!

thanks ladies for quick response
My understaning is that in a separate container I need to mix vodka and dust together and then paint, right?
What's the proportion? x tsp of vodka to x dust ?
sorry for stupid questions, but i'm new to luster dust

There is not really an exact science I don't think. I just add a little and as Amanda said... "a little" dust in a seperate container and add a drop of vodka or lemon extract (I use vodka) until you get a paint like consistancy. That gives you the paint method...

If you want a shimmer without the more intense color use the dry dust method. I generally cover my entire cakes in the dry super pearl dust. I have a huge brush that I bought at Michaels.. it looks like a giant blush brush and I put the super perarl into a small plastic container and dip the brush into the dust and brush it onto the cake all over until I get the pearlized effect. Just remember that when you cover an entire cake you have to be very careful when you handle it as finger prints can show if you have any moisture on your hands what so ever.

Just play with it... once you get used to it you will love it. My cakes in my album, you can tell which have pearl dust and which do not.

Thanks Jeri
I will play a little more when time permits.

Again, thanks everyone on your quick responses. I can always count on you. I submitted the question when I was leaving my work, by the time I got home I had 2 responses. Couldn't ask for faster service than that!!!!
