Default Dixie's Icing

I used the Dixie's icing for VBS and it was a big hit with the kids. It taste like whip cream. It was easy to use and didn't get hard. With the sample package Dixie sends a DVD which shows the different types of icing. I like the taste better than Sam's icing.

So can you smooth it well? Does it not crust? I thought that was what I had read on her page.
Is it pipe-able <not a real word>, like for roses, borders and such?
Is is sweet like rich's better cream or more mild like a cool whip type icing?
Sorry for all the hub-bub, just picking your brain here.

Glad to know it has a good taste! I was wondering if it takes color well?

It smoothes very well and it gets a crust on top but still soft underneath. I didn't make roses or such with it. Have not used rich's better cream. Was like a whipping cream icing. I did use it for writing.

O.K. I got my 2 pails of regular original recipe, I got 1 pail of chocolate and 1 of special recipe regular vanilla.
They do have a whipped taste and and yet you still get the shortening in it, I can tell butter or shortening pretty well, not that it is a bad thing or that you get a coating, just that you know it aint butter.
It was warm from being shipped so I'll let it cool and then see what I can do with it on my trial cupcakes of a new recipe I made.

I am not an expert on icing but I liked the taste of Dixie's better than Sam's buttercream. I would order Dixie's icing again.

I havent yet tried sam's...havent heard anything that made me want to really.
If this works well I could see using it when someone wants a whipped type icing.
