Any favorite wedding cake designs?

Okay--this thread has two purposes. One, bc I just thought it'd be fun to see what everyone's favorite wedding cake designs are (whether you made it or not) since everyone has different tastes, and I just really like looking at wedding cakes haha.

Secondly, my grandmother is going through chemo for skin cancer right now; she will be done with it in August. She and my grandfather got married at the courthouse and so they never had any kind of party or anything for the occasion, let alone a wedding cake!! So I got to thinking that my grandmother really neeeeeeeeeeeds a wedding cake, and a nice party to go along with it. I talked with my Mama this morning, and she and my sister and I are planning to throw them a "renewal of vows" party, so that they can have the "wedding" they never got to have. They are both 70, so we thought it'd be fun to get them dressed up, (and I'm going to make my Mawmaw let me do her makeup--she NEVER wears it!) and make them break their wedding bands out of their safe (bc they havent ever worn those either, bc they were always in the garden, or my Pawpaw was always logging, so they'd get messed up!) I am going to make their "wedding" cake. She LOVES flowers--and pink is her favorite color for anything (I must have gotten that from her!). So I'm sure whatever I do will have lots of pink and flowers. And my pawpaw wont care what it looks like, so long as he gets a bite of it.

SO that long story is the 2nd part--I am excited to look at everyone's favorite cakes. We are hoping to do the party in September, or whenever she is feeling better from the chemo.

Current fav...I love the simple classic look. You could do this with pale pink flowers. That'd be gorgeous!! Hmmm....I may have to do this myself for my portfolio!
My thoughts and prayers are with your grandma. I hope that she goes into remission and never has to do another chemo treatment (after august) !!

That's how mine are too amanda--google images that I liked and saved to a "cakes I like" folder on my computer!! I think it'd be different if you were pretending you made it or something, but you're not, so maybe it's okay that there's no actual source? Really pretty cake!!!

Well, we all put our hearts and souls into our work, so IDEALLY, we should give proper credit to those whose work we post in admiration.

I also have a folder of pictures on my laptop that I've saved, which has really bummed me out on more than one occasion when I wanted to go back and look at that person's other work or whatever. Now, when I save a picture, I change the filename to something like, "User_Amanda_on_CakeCentral.jpg" or something similar.

There's a world of difference between not knowing the source of a picture, article etc. and pretending that you are the author or creator of whatever it is you're posting. We know Amanda that you'd never cross that line.

In general, if you know the source, post it. If you don't, just say you don't. I think that pretty much covers all the bases.

Now, can we all put our happy faces on please?

Best wishes to your grandmother. I know all too well how hard it is to deal with cancer in the family. I'm sure she'll love whatever design you choose!

LadyDZA, that is so sweet and touching what you are doing for them!!!! Maybe in lieu of gifts, you can collect money & make reservations at some nice hotel or inn that they like or would like to go to for a second honeymoon. A little tacky to ask but if they ask what they can get....

The Knot just had a bunch of wonderful cakes on their site. I'm thinking maybe you should go with a more classic type cake since they are older? I remember Buddy Valastro doing the Food Network Cake Challenge & really loved his cake. I couldn't find the link for that cake. Here's his bakery site. Carlos Bakery He seems to be a really nice guy too. He did a Day of Sharing that my friend went to & no one else was demonstrating so he just did cake after cake after cake. One of my goals is to get to one of those this year!!!! How about a castle cake or pumpkin carriage and write "and they lived happily ever after"

That is so sweet DZA! I also know what it's like to see your grandmother go through something like this. She will treasure this! They both will.

I tend to like the artsy, non-traditional styles as well as the clean and simple, elegant types. I'm not a big fan

CarriesCakes is one of my favorite sites to drool over. Check it out. I have so many favs on there but these two are examples of the "unique" and "clean" that I tend to like. I can't wait to see what you do!
