Need Cake Ideas Please
My step brother is having his birthday on July 19th, and of course I'm going to make him a cake. I really don't have a clue what to make though. He's a marine, with a typical marine attitude, he loves playing xbox 360, he's married, he has a 1 year old little girl, he likes to drink, he's a big time practical joker, and his party is going to be on the beach.
Originally, we thought we'd like to get back at him for all the practical jokes, by giving him a cake that had a Navy theme to it. That would so get under his skin. I also thought about maybe doing an xbox 360 replica.
I'm really just not sure, and was hoping you could all help me come up with a really cool idea.

The Navy idea sounds funny, and would certainly get back at him. Or even the X-box thing would be really neat. Sounds like you have quite a few ideas that you can go on.

Re: Need Cake Ideas Please
I remember my girlfriend making a sponge cake for her daughter's graduation. She literally covered foam with icing & decorated it. I was right next to the cake as the grad girl was cutting it & watching her put that knife in & not cutting through. It was pretty darn funny & then get him the Navy cake!!! You'll get him twice.

What about a large anchor over a sandy board, a chain from the anchor to a large black ball... and in the ball, a Little girl and a woman trying to keep her from rolling down. And on the sand a man having a beer or playing games.
To complicated?

Re: Need Cake Ideas Please
I think I'd do a 360 replica, maybe with dog tags laying on top of it, and then just put something cheeky inside a card or something. That way, you still get your "last laugh" in, but he still gets an awesome birthday cake that he'll remember and appreciate. ...As for the practical joke part, you could always dress his little girl up in a sailor outfit LOL. That would probably get at him. At least then, he can always change her outfit and still have an awesome day. Marines are generally VERY proud of being a Marine, so I don't think I'd do a Navy cake, even as a joke. It's liable to get smashed.

Re: Need Cake Ideas Please
Thanks for all the great ideas everyone. His wife has decided she just wants to do a luau themed cake, so no navy cake for him. I may still do a small 6" cake in a navy theme just for him though. I owe him big time for cracking a water balloon over my head on Easter, so we'll have to see what I can come up with. Jazz, I really like the idea of making a cake out of styrofoam, so he looks like an loser when he has trouble cutting it. We'll have to see. Of course, I'll let you all know how it goes, and post pictures.
Ladydza, he's a great sport about practical jokes, so I know he wouldn't get offended or upset by the navy cake. He'd get a good laugh out of it.

Bupbup, styrofoam will work but it was foam so that you can say it's sponge cake. Dismantle an old pillow or something so you don't have to spend any money on it. I can't wait to see what you make. You definitely should get him somehow.
