Default Can you add satin ice premade gumpaste

I have to do a cake for a lady I know for her Sunday school class and she wants a nativity sceen. I want to make nativity figures and was wondering can you use the premade gumpaste and add it to the satin ice fondant to make the figures will it work? If it does then I am placing another order to get some premade gumpaste.

I,too have a nativity cake!! Ha! Anyway, I've already made Mary and a Wiseman out of just Satin Ice, and it worked fine. I didn't mix anything into the Satin Ice, not even gun tex. I had to lay the wiseman on his back while he was drying to keep him from "melting", but he turned out great.
Good Luck!
Amanda

I have used the satin ice gum paste to make a huge # of things with being mixed or not!!! It's a wonderful pre mixed product, The only one I like any better is Nicholas Lodges recipe on his site.
But for pre made it's satin ice all the way!!!!!

I've been making my own gumpaste and have mixed it with Satin Ice to make the fondant dry faster. I've also gone with straight fondant, but they do take longer to dry. Another thing I really like is using the modeling chocolate recipe. It works a lot like gumpaste, but the figures and decorations actually taste good!

I'm wondering though if the pre-made gumpaste is sturdier than the homemade? My homemade gumpaste decorations are so delicate and break so easy that I just hate making them. It's not from not letting them dry long enough because I let them dry for days.

I'm using the Wilton recipe...maybe that has something to do with it. I ordered some tylose so I could try NL's recipe. Hopefully that will be a little better.

I love, love NL's recipe using tylose. It is very sturdy when dry and rock hard...or at least my flowers always are. You can buy it pre-made too but I prefer to make it because it's cheaper than ordering and dealing with shipping, especially at holiday and wedding season!

Thanks for the advice on the recipe. I'll definitely try it out. I want to try the satin ice pre-made too. I have a feeling I may go the same way as I did once I tried the Satin Ice fondant...no more homemade for me!

Until then though, we'll see what using tylose does for me.
