Coping with Gas Prices and delivering Cakes??

Not a bad idea 2sdae, give them options to pay the extra for the gas or not pay for gas(delivery charge) and have them come and pick it up, and make it clear that once it leaves my possesion i will not be responsible for any damages....that could be a good selling point to make and maybe gas(delivery fee) wouldn't be an issue

I've had people pick stuff up before and I don't charge them the delivery fee. Works fine for me so far!

Woohoo had a customer pick an order up today and they didnt seem to mind one bit...this will definitely be my 1st option to them until this un-easy economy changes for the better...less wear and tear on my vehicle and saves my gas..

I'm only delivering big cakes like weddings and such... It's always the customer that comes to pick-up the cake Sometimes I have as much as 6 or 7 cakes during the same weekend, I can't afford to lose time delivering them. In a bakery, do they deliver every cake? I don't think so. in my area it's always the customer that go pick-up the cake. One weekend, I had a delivery in one street, and two orders came from customer living in the same street. They wanted the cakes around the same time, so I suggested that I deliver them since I was going there anyway. But made it clear that I normally don't deliver, it's just that it was more convenient for me on that day...

I just assumed we were talking about larger cakes and high $$ orders. I've never delivered everyday birthday cakes and don't even offer if the order isn't at least $100.
