Default Tinting Black

I have tried and tried, to no avail, to tint my chocolate BLACK for chocolate outlining of designs for chocolate transfers. I'm trying to outline Thomas the Train in black, then also color his face grey. If I could get black, I could then lighten it for the grey. Although I'm starting out with "brown" chocolate and adding black gel, all I get is a deeper brown. Does anyone have any suggestion to help me? Thanks

Have you tried putting it down yet? When I was doing a CT that needed a black outline I kept adding and adding and adding and it never got truly black. I was worried because the person I was decorating for was very particular and a real pita!! I finally gave up and said to myself "Well, this is the best I can do".
Wouldn't ya know that once I put that outline down, it was the blackest black ever!
Good luck!!

Edited to add: I used powdered coloring

Thank you Amanda. I think that my basic problem is using gel coloring. I don't have time to order powder on line (have no idea where to buy locally), but I will.

Do you have a Hobby Lobby, Michael's or Ben Franklin near you? They might have some powdered coloring. I *think* I remember seeing one or two colors in the Wal-Mart cake isle (near the crafts).
Good Luck! I hope you find some.

It's true, sometimes if you let the color just sit overnight, it will darken on its own.
