Wink How much fondant is needed?

I'm going to be making a 16", 12" and 8" wedding cake. Does anyone know how much fondant it will take? I'm thinking about using the Choco-Pan fondant - the ad says it tastes much better and uses less than regular fondant? Any thoughts about using this, or making homemade? Thanks for your help!

OK, there is a thread from Mtbaker about this, but I have no idea how to link it up to this one. It's called "how much fondant do I need to cover a cake" That will tell you exactly how much to buy.
Chocopan is different to work with than Satin Ice or homemade. I would suggest either getting some well in advance and practicing, or mixing it with Satin Ice so that you get the yummy flavor of chocopan, but the stability of Satin Ice. I've never made my own, so I can't help ya there.
I hope that helps!

There's a sticky at the top of this forum with just that information:

How much fondant do I need to cover my cake?

I like the taste of choco-pan better, but most people, me included find it more difficult to work with.

I'll never use homemade again. I think it is such a pain to make and so much more finicky than pre-made that at any cost, it just isn't worth it. I learned to do fondant with homemade and the first time I tried Satin Ice I could've kicked myself for not using it in the first place!

Is it better to mix Choco-Pan and Satin Ice than to use one or the other?

I just use straight Satin Ice. Most of my orders are BC only, or BC with fondant decorations, so for me it just isn't worth it to spend the $$ on flowers that most people will pick off their cake. But, if I did a lot of fondant cakes, I'd consider using a mix of the two....maybe....

Is Choco-Pan chocolate fondant? I like putting fondant on cookie, but as far as cakes go I have not had good results. Could be cause I don't know what I'm doing.

It's a white chocolate based fondant. I really hate it for cakes, but that's just me. Other people really really like it, so I think it's just what you are used to. I've never tried it for cookies, but I'll bet it would do really well. I never even thought of that.....I have some left over Chocopan, I may have to go make some cookies!
Thanks for the idea!!
