Exclamation Anyone ever?

I want to make a weave of fondant on a basket shaped cake . Do you think I could lay the fondant on in strips right on the butter cream covered cake? I dont want to cover it with butter cream then fondant then put on more fondant in strips to get this effect. That just seems like it would be way too much fondant on it ya know, too thick and not to mention heavy.

I have never tried it so I wouldn't know. Let me know how it turns out. A picture maybe?

You can purchase rolling pins that impress the basketweave pattern into fondant. They're a little pricey though.

I've never tried it, but I would be afraid that it would fall, since they are just strips, and not one piece of fondant.
They always make it seem so easy on tv, I think Duff did a cake like that one time.
Make a few strips and test it out before doing the whole cake and having it not work. Let us know how it turns out, Good luck!

Measure the cake (width and lenght), cut the strips and make the basketweave on your counter in the measures you need. Leave it to dry a little and then carefully pick it up and stick it to your buttercream. Make sure the "seams" are in the back of your cake and that's it. Hope this helps.

I have 2 of the rolling pins that make the basket weave pattern, but I want a 2 tone look for the weaving on it.

I think I will try the measuring of the strips and approach it that way...we'll see.

This was my thought as well. It seems this way would work much easier.
