Default Zebra Stripes

This may be a dumb question. How do they make the zebra stripes I just love that design on cakes!

I would think you could roll out black fondant and cut it into different strips and then just put them on the white cake?? I dont know of any template or anything, but you may could find one if you googled it!

It was the easiest thing I've ever done. Roll it out, I probably used the pointy cake spatula & cut different designs, trimmed as needed. I think these are zebra stripes!!

I used the contour pan. Layered it, then cut the cake in half. Turned one half on its top, put icing on the bottom of the cake, put the otherhalf on bottom to bottom & trimmed it to be flat. I set it upright & put it in the fridge to chill. I made the handles the day before letting them harden over 1/2 roll of paper towels with wax paper over that. The bronze look in the name is a gold luster dust mixed with vodka over chocolate fondant. I did that last & if I did it again, I would have made the gold buckles like that with chocolate instead of yellow fondant. I embossed those with part of chain belt I had.

Thanks Jazz. I will have to get that pan. I've been wanting to try a purse cake. I really like how yours turned out. They look so real. I will have to check belts around here for texture.

Thanks! It was fun and EASY! I used the dark chocolate SI fondant. The contour pan gave it nice curves. I used the wilton & put a little more than one mix. That pan makes a nice hat cake too if you need a set, scene or lots of cake.

Those cakes look great. Could you tell me how you got the purse handles and the curls to stand up straight?

Thanks! I rolled fondant thicker than usual, cut out about a 1" strip (approx) & figured out how long I would need it, then glued the 2 ends to make it rounded. Maybe you can use that stitching tool to make stitches in the leather handle. The ends I left open & I placed them over about a 3/4 roll of paper towels, after covering it with wax paper & molded it over that & let it sit a day. They were fondant.

The curls I made with the clay gun & wrapped them around dowels & let them dry overnight. I stuck them over cut down skewers. You can see them sticking out a bit if you look close. They stuck out of the cake may 3/4". Good luck!
