Default when do you apply fondant to cookies??

I made some mmf and have some time this weekend to experiment.

What are the proper steps in putting fondant decorations on cookies?
Does anyone have some kind of step-by-step instructions?

Thanks in advance for help, I love the way these kinds of cookies look and I wanted to try it!

I just smear a little icing on first. I like royal because I can thin it down to practically water and then it won't show under the fondant. But I've done b/c too. I think you can just use a little water, but I'm not 100% sure on that one. If you use icing, just make sure it's thin enough that you won't see the ridges of it through the fondant.
Hope that helps!

I bake my sugar cookies and while they're baking use the same cookie cutter I used to cut out cookie to cut out a matching shape. Then when the cookies have some what cooled I put a a little thinned piping gel or karo light syrup on top and pop on my fondant or rolled butter cream.
They stick, dont show and match the cookies perfect.

Thanks guys!!
I would assume the cookies after the fondant is adhered to needs to be eaten within a couple of days without the risk of drying out and being rock hard?
Are there only ceratin cookies you can use, or can the fondant work with any kinds?

I use the NFSC (No fail sugar cookie) recipe and I love it! I also ice mine with MMF. I bake my cookies one day and then ice them the next day. I use a dab of clear kayro syrup on my cookies and then just apply the MMF. (Cut by the same cookie cutter) The last batch that I made I stored them in Ziploc baggies and we were still eating them about a week later and they still tasted just as fresh as the first day. Good luck!

I've cut out MMF with the same cutter and applied while still warm. It kind of melted onto the cookie. No need for BC or piping gel.

Smile Re: when do you apply fondant to cookies??

I had to make 300 wedding cookies for a 60th wedding anniversary and I put piping gel on the cookies and then cut out the fondant using the same cookie butter and did the detail work with butter cream. These cookies lasted for about three weeks and still tasted good. I did the same thing for Halloween cookies for our church bazar. I used the pizza box template from Karen's Cookies and made pizza cookies using fondant and the kids really loved these. I make my own fondant but will be buy some ready made to see the difference between the two.

I do the same as beachcakes. Put the fondant on the still slightly warm cookie and it will stick like a charm.
