Creamy Christmas Butter Cookies
Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Grease two cookie sheets
In a large Bowl of an electric mixer at medium speed, mix just until blended.
2 sticks of unsalted butter, softened
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
1 tsp vanilla
Add and mix well 1 large egg
In a separate bowl, mix together
2 1/4 cups of all purpose flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp cream of tartar
1/4 tsp salt
Add to the butter mixture and mix at low speed until well combined.
Have on hand.
Colored sanding sugar.
shape the dough into 3/4 inch balls. Arrange the balls 2 inches apart on the cookie sheets. Flatten each ball with a fork ( to prevent your fork from sticking to the cookie dough, dip it occasionally in powdered sugar).
Sprinkle the tops of the cookies with colored sanding sugar.
Bake for 8 to 10 minutes or until lightly colored around the edges. Let cool in pan for five minutes and then remove to rack to cool completely.
Makes four dozen cookies
