Default Scala Coeli Sponge Candy

1 cup sugar
1 cup dark karo syrup
1 TBSP vinegar
1 TBSP baking soda
chocolate almond bark

Combine sugar, karo syrup, and vinegar in a large pot and boil to 300 degrees. Watch closely as it will stick. Remove from heat and quickly stir in 1 TBSP baking soda. Pour into buttered 9x13 pan. Cool and break into pieces. Dip in melted chocolate almond bark.

That sounds like peanut brittle, without the peanuts.

I start making candy and baking cookies right after Thanksgiving and continue for about two weeks. I like to make baskets for family, friends and my neighbors. I have all kinds of cookies and candies and then add some jars of jams, spreads, and cappuccino mix.

I also make up those large gift bags and add some cookie dough, a small rolling pin, cutters, frostings and sprinkles so that busy Moms can make cookies with their children.

I have a cookie decorating party for the children from church the first week of December which last all day long, gives the Mom time to do errands and the children get so creative. I have learned that it's better to thin the icing and put in squeeze bottles then to have icing for them to spread. Their little hands can handle the bottles better. Each child has two dozen cookies to decorate. We watch Christmas movies and have lunch. For the boys I throw in a few dinosaur cookies. This year I am going to add a craft hour so that they can make a gift for Mom and Dad.

We have a Halloween party at church for the children and I make Halloween cookies for them to decorate and you would be surprised to see how many adults like decorating cookies. We have treats and games for the children to play.
