Angry Why does my icing crack???

Here lately every time I make icing when I go to smooth it it cracks! No matter what I do.
Why does it do this and how do I stop it from doing it?

Hhmm, have you done anything different than normal?
Has it been more humid than normal where you are? are you overmixing the icing, maybe causing it to get harder?

doing the same thing as usual. Actually it's been dryer in my house due to cold outside means more heat inside due to furnace so it's dryer heat too.

I am think poss too thin so it kinda gets squishy and crinkles down when trying to smooth it.

I used to get cracks in my icing when I used "class buttercream", but I haven't had any since using the sugarshack recipe. I think I remember reading something about cracks having to do with the sugar/water ratio? I don't know if I'm remembering that right though. Hopefully someone else can give you more insight.

it's sugar shack's recipe and technique I'm using. I'm baffled.

I have found that anytime I have cracks in my BC, it's because my cake board is flexing. Firmer board, no flexing = no cracking.

Michaels has foamcore on sale this week for 97 cents a sheet. I LOVE using foamcore for cake boards!

Speaking of Sugarshack...do you use the Wedding Bouquet flavoring that she uses? I FINALLY bought some from her this past weekend at a cake show. It smells like HEAVEN! I haven't had an opportunity to use it yet, though.
