Re: Anyone have a recipe for
I don't have one but maybe you can try adding real caramel to your recipe and add more sugar or something else in you recipe if it gets to soft. I have added coconut milk to some of the buttercream recipes and works fine so I'm thinking that might work since caramel is thicker than milk.

Re: Anyone have a recipe for
Found this at Sweet Graces' don't know if it would crust. I copied it cause I just love caramel icing! Most caramel icings that I have used have crusted but too fast to do all the smoothing that we cake decorators do.
Uncle Bob’s Caramel Cream Cheese Frosting
1/4 cup light brown sugar
10 tablespoons Real Butter
1/3 cup heavy whipping cream
8 ounces cream cheese, softened
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
½ tsp salt
1 3/4 cups powdered sugar
Melt the brown sugar and 4 tablespoons of the butter in a saucepan over medium heat.
Stir until sugar dissolves. Bring to a boil over medium heat; remove from heat.
Using a whisk, blend in the whipping cream. Place this into a large mixing bowl and set aside to cool.
In a separate bowl, beat the cream cheese and remaining butter at medium-high speed until it has a smooth consistency. Add the vanilla and salt. With mixer running, slowly pour in cooled brown sugar mixture; beat until smooth. Add the powdered sugar about one third at a time, beating well after each addition until completely smooth.
Chill slightly to a spreading consistency before icing the cake.

Re: Anyone have a recipe for
Try adding a tablespoon (a bit more if it is really soft) of Meringue powder to your buttercream. This helps it crust.

Re: Anyone have a recipe for
This is a caramel recipe I have, but I never made it, so I have no idea whether it is crusting or not...It makes 3 cups of frosting.
1 stick butter
1/2 cup dark brown sugar, packed
1/2 cup light brown sugar, packed
1/3 cup whole milk
1 cups confectioners sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
Cook sugar and butter over medium heat until it comes to boil. Add milk and bring it back to boil. Remove from heat, add conf. sugar and vanilla. Beat until smooth. Frost the cake with it while it is still warm.
Hope this helps.
