Re: check out this icing....
At the Austin Sugar Arts Show a few weeks ago, everyone who signed up for the day-long demos was given a little sample cup of Dixie's icing in our goodie bags, and I thought it tasted really super yummy. I considered ordering a 5 gallon tub of it, but haven't. It cost twice as much as making my own before shipping!

My thoughts too, she has sample packs for 15.00 with free shipping and it's like 6 pounds of icing in 5 flavors and such.
But I was more curious than anything...you know, something new to peruse..... .gif)

If you like a somewhat whipped, somewhat heavy, somewhat fine-sugar-gritty, shortening-based buttercream, this is perfect. I normally don't eat shortening-based buttercream just because I know what's in it, but this stuff was like the best bakery frosting EVER. It was very vanilla-y.

LOL I was thinking the same thing!!
Is it very gritty? I've been thinking about ordering it too, but is it worth it? Better than homemade?

Re: check out this icing....
No, it's not reallyvery gritty...it's just got that very, very, very fine grittiness that many shortening-based bakery-style buttercreams have. I quite like that. You can suspend twice as much sugar in hi-ratio shortening as you can in Crisco, so I imagine that's where that fine grittiness comes from (or they only used 6x sugar, which means the sieve size they pass the sugar granules through is somewhat larger than our common 10x powdered sugar).

Re: check out this icing....
HMMM, it's a thought. I may have to do the sample pack and see if I like.
But it wouldn't do me much good for my other flavors I like to use.
Like the ones that are more gourmet so to speak, maybe special orders is a better description.
I found creamora new flavors now, tirimasu and something else I'll have to look and they add so much to my icings and such. I just dont think I'd really use the other icing so much. I am kinda addicted to making my own I do believe, hu! I just realized that right now!
